London International Open Eskrima Championships 2010
(29th of May 2010)
SENI 2010 - London Excel
The first of the now annual 'International Open Championships' took place on the 29th May 2010 at the Olympic venue, Excel in London. The 'International Opens include Brazilian JuJitsu; Karate; Kung Fu; Judo, Thai Boxing and MMA and of course Eskrima. The Filipino Martial Arts drew a huge crowd with the fast full contact action and ran at a very fast pace. The fights were awesome and extremely competitive whilst the Forms were beautiful with Empty Hand, Single Stick; Double Stick and Nunchuku incorporated with rolls, spins and weapon catching. An extremely great event. With competitors from across Europe we would like to thank all those who took part and a special thanks to Grandmaster Danny Guba (Doce Pares) and Grandmaster John Harvey (Kapatiran).
'Fighter of the Day' is eligible to be won by any fighter who wins a Gold Medal. The deciding factor as to who wins that title is decided upon 'the whole package' (as GM Danny Guba says). That is overall attitude and the ability to win and lose in a gracious manner. This respectful attitude accompanied with grit and determination gave the titles to the following:
