Grandmaster 'Danny' Guba Seminar

Bangkaw & Serra Todo (Staff and Tying)

28th of March 2010

Grandmaster 'Danny' Guba attended Lordswood in Kent to conduct a six hour Doce Pares seminar organised by Master Nimesh Desai (Doce Pares Bromley). The event was attended by fifty Doce Pares Eskrimador from across the South East of England.

The day started at 10:00 at Lordswood Leisure Centre at Medway, Kent. Grandmaster Danny Guba began with Bangkaw, the staff, spear or long pole. He demonstrated twirling, amarra, angles, techniques and abecedario. Despite the size of this weapon the Grandmaster made his use of it appear simple and effortless. The Bangkaw course ran for two hours before a break for lunch.
Lordswood Leisure Centre laid on hot and cold food at their cafe which the Eskrimadors took full advantage of. Feeling rested and refreshed it was time to move on.
The second part to the days seminar was the illusive Serra Todo, the tying-up techniques of the Filipino Martial Arts. Grandmaster Danny started with Espada y Daga tying which lead on to the Single Stick against strike and punch techniques. The transition between both were investigated and explained by GM Danny to all there. After another break the 'tying-up' techniques were taught in Mano Mano (Empty Hand) showing again the transition and versatility of this beautiful art.
Finally Grandmaster Danny returned full circle in the Serra Todo to double weapon. Only now he flowed from technique to technique in the 'tying-up' using Double Knife.

All in all a very advanced seminar. Grandmaster Danny Guba was, as usual, an enormous character leaving people happy in his company and making all laugh throughout the day. His ability is always awe inspiring and he had time to speak and personally teach everyone there. Another great success and pleasant day with a great family atmosphere.
